Kyle McCormack here, Outreach Coordinator for the Party.
On June 3rd, Libertarians from across British Columbia gathered in a beautiful and secluded location to admire the breath-taking natural beauty of BC – and even more importantly, to discuss how best to secure the future liberties of all British Columbians.
From our most experienced and campaign-hardened veteran candidates to our newest members, we heard over three hours of excellent ideas and spent hours more engaging in friendly conversation and debate over an enormous range of social and political topics.
The Libertarian Workshop is an extraordinary opportunity for all, as members new and old are given a chance to make presentations and discuss their ideas with our candidates and leader. Every member who wanted 15 minutes, got 15 minutes. We filmed the entire event for social media and for our members to review and study.
For the first half an hour or so after we arrived, liberty-lovers began slowly trickling in and almost immediately set to the task of preparing the room for the coming presentations. Furniture was rearranged, cables and camera tripods soon littered the floor, Rosie told us not to break anything and a ring of chairs now stood facing a blank television screen.
Laptops emerged, speeches were prepared, and many new members shook hands with our elected executives, coordinators and board members. Delicious food was prepared, many donations were made to the party and many, many photos were taken.
So many.
Then… we sat down, and we listened.
And listened…
…And listened…
…and that right there is the difference between the new BC Libertarian Party and the old establishment parties British Columbians have been stuck with for so long. Libertarians listen – and they do so very carefully. We’re open to new ideas, open to pragmatism, balanced approaches and realistic takes on the available data.
We want our members to bring forward their expertise, their life experiences and their great ideas to our workshops. That’s what this entire event is for!
Whether it was listening to how the blockchain will come to define our future, or how key language might be the most important missing piece of the libertarian message, or how the government was ruining a multi-billion dollar sustainable fish-farming opportunity…
…we listened.
New members like Remon (right) discussed policies and fresh ideas with founding-era veterans like Treasurer Paul Geddes (left), and all voices were given ample time to be properly heard.
Neeraj Murarka talked about how distribution of trust and consensus across computer swarms paired with blockchain technology could forever put an end to internet fraud and data theft, among other security threats. This, he says, is our future.
Party President Don Wilson talked about private policing and security forces who work with police to enhance the liberty of peaceful people. These forces have been demonstrated to slash crime rates to pieces in places like Detroit.
And that’s just a small sample of our huge list of guest speakers. You can see more photos on our Facebook page!
And of course, Clayton Welwood did his job as our fearless Leader, setting up the whole event and putting in an enormous effort to make the whole liberty event a smash success.
These events matter because they show that our party is more than just a name on a ballot. We’re here, and we’re waiting for you to join our team.
If you want to get in on the action, if you want access to the incredible knowledge of our members and if YOU want to help promote liberty for the next political generation, you can make a donation, join us today and sign up as a volunteer.
